Course Synopsis

Introduction of the basic concepts of survival data analysis techniques and techniques developed for comparison of survival distributions for censored data. To enable students for modeling of survival data and to understand research employing various survival data analysis. To learn the usage of appropriate statistical software for survival analysis.

Course Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this course students will be able to: • Understand the key features of lifetime data, including censoring, probability function, survival function, hazard function. • Do comparison of survival distributions of two or more than two groups using parametric and non-parametric methods. • Select the appropriate distribution of survival time. • Understand the theory underlying survival models and their estimation and how to fit models, including the Kaplan-Meier estimate of the survival function, parametric models and the Cox regression model. Interpretation of results obtained from fitting survival models. • Use of different statistical software and packages for application of survival techniques. • Apply survival techniques on real life data.
