Course Synopsis

English Language Teaching (ELT) is designed to facilitate academic and professional development of those who aspire to teach English as a second language in Pakistan. This course is beneficial for pre- service and in- service teachers. It will contribute to the students' career development by introducing them to eclectic teaching methods. The program will help students to improve and reflect upon their understanding of English Language Teaching and lead them to investigate the fresh advances in teaching methodology and teacher education so that they can easily and flexibly perform the role of teachers. This course precisely helps to improve their knowledge and understanding of English by focusing on productive and receptive skills of language.

Course Learning Outcomes

The E.L.T. course aims to achieve the following: . To introduce the topics of EIL, English in Pakistan, Language Learning and approaches, and Language Teaching Methodologies. . To provide a knowledge base of appropriate content of E.L.T. to prospective ESL / EFL teachers. . To develop language teaching skills by giving practice inappropriate areas. . To develop the ability to critically evaluate content and its application by making considered judgments. . To provide relevant experiences of teaching / learning of ESL / EFL by using e.g. problem solving tasks, discussion and reflection. . To deliver E.L.T. content in a student centred approach. . To raise awareness about the importance of teacher training of ESL / EFL. . To increase the peripheral learning by inducing modern pedagogical techniques in the classroom. . To link knowledge with real life situations and to encourage a reflective approach to teaching / learning of ESL / EFL . To channel the potential interest of students in adopting teaching as a career. . To practice PW / GPW configuration to enhance the learning of ESL / EFL. . The design / content of E.L.T. to prepare students for the E.L.T. teaching jobs.
