Course Synopsis
Production of X-rays:
The X-ray tube, Basic X-ray circuit, Physics of X-ray production, Bremsstrahlung and characteristic X-rays, interaction of radiations with matter
Clinical radiation generator:
Grenz-ray Therapy, Contact Therapy, Ortho voltage therapy or deep therapy, super voltage and mega voltage therapy, Visible range radiation therapy (Chromo-therapy), Van de Graaf generator, linear accelerator, Betratron, Microtron, cyclotron, Machines using radionuclides, filters used in chromotherapy (sample preparation techniques)
Measurement and calculation of absorbed dose:
Absorbed dose, units for absorbed dose, measurement of absorbed dose, calorimetry, chemical dosimetry, thermoluminescencedosimetry, photographic dosimetry, Factors affecting effects of radiation on body
Biological effects of radiations:
Basic human physiology, The interaction of radiations with cells and enzymes, colors and diseases, Deterministic effects i.e. acute radiation effect, late deterministic effects, ways of absorption of different radiations in the visible region in human body
The external radiation hazard:
Source of hazard, principles for controlling the hazard, shielding, personal dose control, radiation survey monitoring, personal monitoring equipment
Radiation protection and medicine
General principles, diagnostic radiography, diagnostic fluoroscopy, transmission computed tomography, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine
Medical imaging techniques:
Diagnostic ultrasound, Position emission tomography (PET), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT Scan, Cancer imaging
