Course Synopsis
This course comprises of fundamental and applied aspects of nuclear chemistry and radioactivity. It starts with the basic knowledge of radioactivity and then moves towards nuclear stability and structure of the nucleus. Some important nuclear reactions and the significance of nuclear chemistry for power generation is discussed. The course highlights the major concerns regarding the excessive use of nuclear technology including radiation hazards and nuclear waster disposal.
Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, the students would have acquired a deep understanding of radioactivity, nucleus structure and its stability. they should be able to distinguish between different types of radiations and their impact on human body. Uses of radioisotopes in various field would be clear to them. The students would have understood about radiation hazards and how the exposure to radiations should be limited. They would have studied the structure of reactors designed for various purposes.
