Course Synopsis
The aims of Writing Skills in ESL are to:
i. Examine major issues concerning writing, written language, and literacy in a second language;
ii. Provide a linguistic analysis of written text structure
iii. Examine areas of theoretical concern in second language writing;
iv. Provide an overview of issues concerning writing, written language, and literacy which are of particular relevance to teachers and learners of a foreign language.

Learning Outcomes Writing Skills
The unit is structured in four parts which examine process, product, context, and instruction of writing in a second language.
• The first deals with composing and the writer in relation to the text;
• The second deals with the text produced, its structure and organization;
• The third with the text and the writer in relation to social context; and
• The fourth deals with the teaching, assessment, and acquisition of writing in a second language.
Speaking Skills
• Employ research techniques to analyze spoken language,
• Demonstrate knowledge of various methods and activities for teaching speaking.
• Help your students master strategies related to speaking
• Plan effective lessons and courses which focus on speaking
• Incorporate aural and visual media effectively in your teaching,
• Discuss, in an informed way, current problems and issues related to the teaching of speaking
