1. Introduction: Definition and characteristics of computers, Types of computer, Computers generations and Classifications. 2. Input Devices: Keyboard, Pointing and Draw Devices, Source data entry & Scanning Devices, Voice recognizing Devices, Visio-Input System. 3. Output Devices: Monitors, Printers, Plotters, Multimedia Projector and Voice Response Systems. 4. Basic Computer Organization: Input unit, Output Unit, Storage Unit, ALU, Control Unit and CPU. 5. Processor and Memory: The Central Processing Unit, Machine cycle, Processor Evolution, System clock, Main Memory Organization, Memory Capacity, RAM, ROM, Cache Memory, and Registers. 6. Computer Languages and software : introduction to computer language, Low level language, machine language, assembly language, High level language, complier, linker, interpreter, types of software, virus, worm, spam, antivirus 7. Data Communication: Networks and Data Processing network, Types of Network, data communication modes, using wireless network, network security. Basic element of communication system 8. Computer in everyday life: case study ,banking, investing, shopping, communication etc.

Course Synopsis

This is the fundamental course of computer sciences to give an introduction of computer fundamentals and basic and commonly used application programs as Word, Excel and Power point in an interesting, logical and informative manner. Main focus of the lab work will be on Excel, Word and Power point

Course Learning Outcomes

• Explain the function of a computer. • Determine the scope and applications of computers in industry. • Evaluate appropriate applications for commonly available software used in computer systems. • Evaluate appropriate applications for commonly available peripherals used in personal computer systems. • Demonstrate the ability to operate a personal computer. • Analyze the computer needs of a selected workplace situation to specify computer system components appropriate to the requirements of that situation.
