Course Synopsis
The course aims at providing an understanding of GIS, its evolution, applications, spatial data models and data structures, design aspects of GIS; spatial data acquisition, sources and standards; spatial data manipulation, spatial analysis and visualization of data. This subject provides basic training in understanding GIS data capturing, storage, retrieval, analysis and display. It also helps to learn functionality of GIS software and to gain basic skills.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
• Identify basic components of GIS
• Differentiate between Raster and Vector data model
• Differentiate between spatial and non spatial/ attribute data model
• Visual skills of data retrieval and mapping
• Decision making
