Course Synopsis
The course is thematically designed in the contextual framework of theory and practice. It seeks to highlight two factors of structure and agency as represented respectively by state apparatuses and the political system, and political parties, ideologies, and patterns of leadership. The course focuses on the overarching influence of the initial stages of state formation, legal and constitutional development, extra-parliamentary forces led by the army, and ethnic and religious-sectarian identities in the politics of Pakistan.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. The course will develop in Ph.D. scholars a comprehensive understanding of various structural and operational aspects of politics in Pakistan
2. Also enable them to understand critical thinking about politics in the country in a conceptual framework beyond the traditional chronological approach.
3. It also provides a perspective on the working of state institutions in the context of comparative politics.
