Course Synopsis
HEAT AND TEMPERATURE:
Temperature, Kinetic Theory of the Ideal Gas, Review of previous Concepts about Kinetic Theory of Gas, Gas Law, Equation of State of Gas, Pressure of Gas on the basis of Kinetic Theory of Gasses, Work Done on Ideal Gas, Internal Energy of an Ideal Gas, Inter-molecular Forces - Qualitative Discussions and Vander Waal’s Equation of the State of Gas.
THERMODYNAMICS:
Review of Previous Concepts, First Law of Thermodynamics and its Application to Adiabatic, Isothermal, Cyclic and Free Expansion, Reversible and irreversible Processes, Nature of Heat, Heat Capacities, Relation between Heat Capacities of Gas and Equation of State for Adiabatic Process. Second Law of Thermodynamic, Carnot Theorem, Carnot Engine, Heat Engine, Refrigerator, Calculation of Efficiency of Heat Engine, Coefficient of Performance, Thermodynamic Temp. Scale and Absolute Zero.
ENTROPY:
Entropy, Entropy in reversible and irreversible Processes, Entropy and Second Law, Entropy and Probability, Principal of Increase of Entropy and degradation Energy of Entropy.
APPLICATIONS OF LAWS OF THERMODYAMIC FUNCTIONS:
Thermodynamics function-Internal Energy, Entropy, Enthalpy, Helmholtz and Gibb’s, Maxwell Equation, 1st and 2nd TDS Equations, Energy Equation and their Application, Clauises Clapeyron Equation and Stephan Law of Black Body Radition.
LOW TEMPERATURE PHYSICS:
Liquefaction of Gasses, Joule Thompson Effect ( Porous Plug Experiment) and its Equations
THERMO-ELECTRICITY:
Thermocouple, Seeback Effect, Peltier’s Effect and Thompson Effect
