Course Synopsis
The course will provide students with an overview of abnormal psychology. Historical perspectives of mental illness will be presented. The course will cover material on various psychological disorders, theories about their development; how disorders are diagnosed and assessed; and how they are treated. Current theory and research will be emphasized. Understand the nature of abnormal behavior and mental illness.
Students will be able to:
• Understand the process of assessing such behavior and the most commonly used system for classifying psychological disorders.
• Be familiar with and able to discuss several different theoretical perspectives on psychological disorders.
• Understand various legal issues relevant to mental illness and abnormal behavior

.Explore historical views and current perspectives of abnormal behavior
.Emphasis major diagnostic categories and criteria, individual and social factor of maladaptive behavior and type of therapy
