• Prevalence and prevention of primary nutritional problems of Pakistan: Protein energy malnutrition; Rickets and Osteomalacia; Scurvy; Beri-Beri; Xerophathalmia and Keratomalacia; Pellagra; Nutritional Anaemias, Iodine Deficiency Disorders and Zinc deficiency. • Nutrition Education and counseling process • Role of Home Economist in Community development. • Role of national and international agencies in the field of health & nutrition. Course Synopsis

• To understand local nutritional problems, their prevalence in vulnerable groups. • To enable the planning of nutrition education programme for institutions and community to prevent nutritional disorders. • To assess the food and nutrition scenario at national and international level.

Course Learning Outcomes

• Students will be able to interpret and apply nutrition concepts to evaluate and improve the nutritional health of communities. • Students will demonstrate competence in the skills of assessment, planning, management and evaluation of foodservice, nutrition and dietetic services in community. • Plan a community nutrition education/intervention based upon a needs assessment • Advocate for a public policy related to nutrition programs or health care • Learn and develop effective counselling skills.
