II. Introduction to regional concepts and methods
Criteria for dividing world into regions;
Types of regions with special emphasis on economic, political, cultural and special purpose regions of the world.
III. Study of each region with an emphasis on South Asia, S.W Asia, Far-eastern regions,
IV. Western Europe, Russia, Central Asia, North Africa and Anglo-America
V. Systematic study of regions commencing from their physical attributes, location, physiography, climate, soils, hydrology and natural vegetation
VI. Economic attributes, human resources, mineral and power resources etc.
VII. Agriculture, industry, communication and trade
VIII. Role/contribution of the region in Global development
IX. Assignment regarding construction of world region maps showing distribution, location of countries, major relief features, resources, trade etc.
Course Synopsis
This course is framed to impart knowledge of the principles underlying the division of the world into geographic regions & to transfer knowledge of the characteristics of regions at global level.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, the student will:
• Identify and describe the world’s major geographic realms and significant contemporary issues within those realms.
• Explain the economic interdependencies and cultural interconnections between realms and regions.
• Define the major sub-disciplines within geography, and provide examples of realms and regions of the world.
• Compare and contrast major political systems, and identify where they are prevalent in the world.
• Categorize and evaluate regional economic systems.
• Compare and contrast major world religions and languages within a spatial context
