Course Contents
The central objective of Social Studies instruction is the promotion of better citizenship
Students will gain knowledge, skills, and experience to:
• linking the disciplines of Social Studies of everyday life of individuals and communities;
• Understand that people have social, cultural, and economic roles, rights, and responsibilities.
• Understand how systems of government operate and affect people’s lives, and how they compare with another system.
• To provide an understanding of behavioral actions. This is done by examining the cause-effect relationship.
• To develop in students a knowledge of the workings of economic systems and a sense of the economic dimensions of social and political issues.
Outline:
Political Science:
• Introduction to Concepts of State and Constitution.
• Introduction of Different Political Systems as Presidential/Parliamentarian Monarchy/Dictatorship Government Systems
• Introduction to Laws and Fundamental Political Rights.
Economics:
• Introduction to basics concepts and Process of Economic development.
• Determinants and Obstacles in Socio-economic development
• Inflation/ balance of Payment
• Problems of Developing economics with special reference to Pakistan.
Sociology:
• Sociology: Definitions and its descriptions, Evolution of society in the world.
• Society: Definitions and its descriptions, Main feature of Society.
• Social structure: Definitions and its descriptions and main feature
• Socialization: Definitions and its descriptions, factors responsible for socialization.
• Social Change: Definitions and its descriptions, factors which promote and hinder the process of social change.
• Social Institutions, structure and function of social institution. (i.e. Family, religion, Education, economy, Politics and recreational institution)
• Mass Communication as an agent of social change.
• Social issue and problems of Pakistan(Assignment)
Psychology:
• Social Psychology: Introduction
• Definition of Self: Cal Roger's theory of self
• Definition of Attitude, Formation and Measurement of Attitude, Relationship of attitude with behavior, attitude Change, Mass Media in attitude formation and change.
• Collective Behavior: groups, types of groups, crowd
• Psychological Aspects of Human Communication: verbal and non-verbal
Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental political processes, institutions, actors, behavior, and ideas; and familiarity with major concepts in Political Science, sociology and Psychology. And Synthesize, analyze, and critically evaluate major arguments in the discipline.
