Course Synopsis

The course is dided into four parts; 1. Electrochemistry 2. Nuclear Chemistry 3. Photochemistry 4. Group theory Group theory Group Theory is the mathematical application of symmetry to an object to obtain knowledge of its physical properties. Symmetry of a molecule is related to its physical properties and provides a quick simple method to determine the relevant physical information of the molecule. The symmetry of a molecule provides the information of what energy levels the orbitals will be, what the orbitals symmetries are, what transitions can occur between energy levels without rigorous calculations.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course contents in Group theory the student will be able to: 1. Recognize symmetry elements in a molecule; 2. State the point group a molecule belongs to 3.Understand degenerate and non-degenerate representations;
