Electronic and Raman Spectroscopy:
Principles of electronic transition. Types of electronic transition. Energies of atomic orbital-with reference of H-atom spectrum, electronic angular momentum fine structure of H-atom spectrum. Raman Spectra-idea of Raman scattering, Rayleigh scattering Molecular poparazability. Rotational Raman Spectra of linear Molecules. Symmetric top molecules and spherical top molecules Vibrational Raman spectra.
Course Synopsis
concept of electronic states, electronic transitions, absorption of radiation, and lambda max of radiation. concept of electronic angular momentum and fine structure of H-spectrum. Concept of scattering, Raman scattering, effects of electric and magnetic fields on polarisability of molecules, concepts of symmetric top and spherical top molecules. Basis of qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Course Learning Outcomes
students will learn about the electronic structure of molecules, their energies, and different possible transitions on the absorption of suitable radiation. They will be able to conceive the concept of angular momentum and fine structure of H-spectrum. They will be aware, different types of scatterings especially Raman scattering, molecular polarisability, effects of fields of radiations and so the basis of qualitative and quantitative analysis.
