Course Synopsis
The course covers the basic concepts and theories of the TESOL leadership and management including recent developments in the TESOL field to improve students' knowledge and understanding of leadership, management, language learning and teaching.This course is designed for language teachers who want to become directors of studies/managers of language teaching and learning centres/institutions. The students will gain the knowledge and experience needed to carry out management and leadership duties, enhancing your career opportunities leading to a professional, postgraduate qualification. The students will gain a better understanding of management in education, and, in particular, in the international language teaching and learning industry, preparing to play a leadership role in the management and coordination of English language teaching centres and language departments, second language materials development and language assessment
Aims and Objectives:
The course aims to enable students to:
1. Gain an understanding of the criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of management with which an educational organization manages its resources.
2. Be able to assess the resource management practices in relation to efficiency and effectiveness.
3. Appreciate the extent to which a rational approach to use and manage resources in an appropriate manner according to the organizational culture and environment.
4. Think and research critically and strategies accordingly.
5. Promote an evidence-based approach to examining the effectiveness of the various options for managing an organization’s workforce
6. Learn the relationship between theory and effective practice in language teaching
7. Get the entrepreneurial skills needed to succeed in the field of educational management
8. Understand the needs of students from different backgrounds and levels of education

At the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Understand the meaning/concept of leadership and management
2. Enumerate the functions of leadership and management
3. Gain a better understanding of management in education, specifically in the international language teaching and learning industry
4. Play a leadership role in the management and coordination of English language teaching centres and language departments, second language materials development and language assessment
