The course is aimed at focusing specialized approaches of mass communication research. Course Synopsis

The course is intended to provide an overview of interpretive approach and its major dimensions. The purpose is to give a comprehensive and indepth understanding of the data collection techniques that are used in qualitative research.Some main approaches within interpretive school of thought are also part of the syllabus so as to broaden the vision .Since interpretive approach is in contrast to the positivist approach (previously learnt and practiced by the students),steps in qualitative research are made part of the course outline . Furthermore ,the critical review(Including both advantages and limitations)and inclusion of different qulitative research methods aims at enabling the students to select most appropriate method for their research projects.Teaching methodologies will include Discussions,handouts, presentations ,and assignments.Beside formal examination,student,s learning will be evaluated through research projects like proposal and Abstract writing.

Course Learning Outcomes

Student will get to know about interpretive approach and its major dimensions.This will enhance their knowledge of different school of thoughts in social sciences research . Understanding of main approaches within interpretive school of thought will broaden the vision of students with regard to Qualitative Research. .Theoratical as well as practical exposure of the steps in qualitative research will translate the students into well equipped researchers. The critical review(Including both advantages and limitations)inclusion of different qulitative research methods will enable the learners to select most appropriate method for their research projects.
