Course Synopsis

This course offers a foundation in approaches, methods, practice, and materials for the teaching reading comprehension and vocabulary development. It is designed to give classroom teachers confidence with a variety of instructional techniques and strategies being practiced globally , so that they are able to employ them according to their respective needs at educational institutions. The emphasis would be on teaching different reading comprehension strategies for enhancing understanding and vocabulary building. Aims and Objectives: The course aims to enable students to: 1. Outline fundamental concepts involved in teaching of reading skills and vocabulary development. 2. Use various approaches and methods of language teaching, as deemed necessary for successful language skill development and implementation. 3. Recognize the latest in technology integration practices. 4. Use a variety of assessment strategies to evaluate student learning in second language.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to understand and develop knowledge of: 1. The core reading skills and strategies. 2. How to employ different reading strategies to improve reading comprehension. 3. Main approaches to teaching reading comprehension. 4. Different types of vocabulary and Vocabulary teaching techniques 5. How to make reading comprehension and vocabulary lesson plans.
