Introduction of T.S ELIOT as modern poet, his life and works • Thematic and stylistic analysis ofhis poetry in “The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock” (1915) • Ts. Eliot post war modern Poet in “The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock” • Background, thematic and stylistic analysis of Wasteland. Discussion on the title of wasteland Reading and explanation of Ist quartet • themes of moral, spiritual , social, cultural and religious degradation / reading and explanation of 2nd quartet • themes of politics ,war , alienation, sexual perversion / reading and explanation 3rd quartet • Stylistic analysis of modern techniques: symbols, myths, imagery and diction/ reading and explanation of 4th quartet • Revision of themes in Wasteland in its socio political background and T.S. Ted Hughes as a animal poet, his views on shamanism , nature, validity, and creating order out of disorder .
Course Synopsis
This course includes modern poet like T. S Eliot, W B Yeats, Philip Larkin and Ted Hughes. It traces modern themes and modern experimentation in style, symbols and imagery. It aims to develop understanding of factors like Great Depression, WWI, WWII and Great Migration etc. It traces the modern themes and existentialist crisis of modern man.
