Course Synopsis
History of Art provides the students with an understanding of the origins, meaning and purpose of art and artifacts from various world cultures, the circumstances of their making, their creators, the media used, the functions of the images and objects, their critical reception and their history and the influences. History of Art develops the skill in the critical analysis of objects through the cultivation of visual literacy and relevant vocabulary of art. The acquired skills have broad applicability in a wide range of professional settings.
Course Learning Outcomes
• This course aims at bringing an awareness of the importance of art history for the students of art in the light of ancient civilizations.
• Students will learn to observe various art forms of Pre-historic and ancient civilizations.
• In the middle of the session, they will be assessed by examination on the pattern of final examination (paper pattern: objective and subjective).
• They will be assessed and groomed by group presentation, quizzes and class test on different topics related to their subject.
