Course Contents

1. Introductory Lecture: - The “Basic” course, conceived to prepare students for diverse practical disciplines by teaching them general formal concept of What is design? List of materials, list of Terminologies and Introduction with images. 2. How to communicate with the object along with their usage and history? Objectives: - Students will learn how to develop a dialogue with the objects. It will increase their keen observation towards specific objects. They will also learn how to gather data in reference to its history and usage as a result they will start looking around with minute observation. Outcome: - Students will gain knowledge of the visual world. 3. The behavior of a dot in design. Application of dot within a given space. Student will learn how to keep a certain distance between two dots. Objectives: - Students will learn the number of individual dots that can be placed in a given area with keen observation. Outcome: - they will learn how to keep space between two dots by keeping in mind the aspect of neatness and balance. 4. Free flow of line: - (straight line) Objectives: - conscious control of line. Outcomes: - they will learn how to apply a single stroke line in one attempt by keeping in mind a certain space. 5. Outcomes: - they will learn how to apply a single stroke line in one attempt by keeping in mind a certain space. 6. Shape: - defining space with reference to art forms. Arrangement of geometrical shapes against negative space (background color will be of student’s choice) Outcomes: - they will learn how to play with space and shapes. It will be joyful experience through which they will be able to interact with the given area. Objectives: - they will learn how to arrange shapes by keeping in mind the rules of composition. 7. Shape: - according to tonal perspective against negative space Outcomes: - they will learn how to play with space and shapes. It will be joyful experience through which they will be able to interact with the given area. Objectives: - they will learn how to arrange shapes by keeping in mind the rules of composition. 8. Color Color Wheel Objectives: - They will learn about behavior of primary and secondary colors and tonal gradation. Outcome: - how to control poster colors in a specific area. 9. Tints and Shades (primary and complimentary) Objectives: - they will learn about behavior of primary and secondary colors and tonal gradation. Outcome: - how to control poster colors in a specific area. 10. Warm and cool colors application Objectives: - how warm and cool colors behave? 11. Color Perspective Objectives: - They will learn about creating distance and perspective through tonal gradation. Outcome: - Better understanding of perspective through colors. 12. Principle of Design Harmony, Balance, Rhythm, Repetition etc. Objectives: - They will learn how to apply principle of design according to specific composition. Outcome: - This assignment will provide a strong base for the future design development.

Course Synopsis

The foundation course focuses on three areas: Practical design skills, design studio and design in context. The content is primarily skills based with strong commercial links to the creative industries and local employers, as well as focusing on the contextual aspects of design. The course aims to equip students with a relevant, through and up to date of the industry.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students will gain knowledge of the visual world. They will learn to interact with the given area by playing with space, shapes and colors, keeping in mind the aspects of neatness, balance and composition. This course will provide a strong base for the future design development.
