Philosophical Perspective of Education Class: MS, Education Course title: Philosophical Perspective of Education Course Code: EDU-624 Credit hours: 3 COURSE DESCRIPTION: The main objective of the course is to study philosophically the education and its problems. To do this study the participants are given opportunity to know the standard branches of the philosophy: Epistemology, Ontology, and Axiology. The central focus of the discussion in this course is how the elements of the educational process are coordinated around a cosmic vision and what specific educational implications of classical and modern philosophies are emerged with reference to aims, curriculum, methodology and evaluation, etc. Other substantive topics include: Thoughts of eminent educational thinker; philosophy and Education; philosophy and Science; Logical system in education; and Analytical topical Assignments. Course Outcomes After studying the course, the students can 1. Can synthesize definition of educational philosophy in the light of given definitions in literature 2. Can analyze branches and schools of general and educational philosophies 3. Identify and differentiate among major philosophies of education 4. Can develop arguments for aims, curriculum and instructional methodology based on different philosophies. 5. Can appraise the contributions of Muslim and non-Muslim philosophers of education 6.
