Course Contents

PROBABILITY AND PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION: Basic concepts of probability, probability rules (Additive and Multiplicative), Standard Distributions: Binomial and Poisson with properties, Normal Distribution with properties and application. SAMPLING TECHNIQUES: Random and Non-random Samples, Sampling Distribution of Statistics, Mean and S.E of distribution for mean and proportion, Sampling distribution of difference between mean and difference between proportions. TEST OF SIGNIFICANCE: Introduction Z-Test, t-Test, basic idea of means and proportion , Testing for difference between means and difference between proportion by Z and T test, Basic idea of Chi-Square test, Testing for goodness of fit, Testing the association of variables , F-Test. Introduction and ANOVA, LSD test. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Concept and principles of experimental design, Planning of an experiment, CR design, RCBD and LATIN Square Designs with their layout, model and applications. Case Studies: Application of statistical techniques

Course Synopsis

This course provides the fundamentals of probability distributions, sampling distributions, testing of hypothesis, experimental designs and their uses in different disciplines.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will have basic theoretical knowledge about probability distributions (binomial, poisson and normal), fundamental principles for statistical inference. knowledge about Sampling distribution of different estimators, Sampling distribution of S^2 , t-distribution and F-distribution. Can perform point estimation, interval estimation and hypothesis testing. knowledge to perform chi square goodness of fit test, test the independence of two variables and experimental design techniques.
