Course Contents

In 3D art practice the students will perform multiple assignments of the following categories 1. Sculpture 2. Ceramics • Introduction to terracotta clay, wedging, making slab and coil method • Designing and making 12 inches long vase with adding coil designs • Making 10 by 10 inches square slab • Carving or adding Islamic geometrical design then cutting it to make a tile according to design • Introduction to gauze bandage and plaster of paris • Casting own face with the use of gauze bandage, plaster of paris and Vaseline • Casting different gestures of hands using same materials

Course Synopsis

This course will: • describe concerns of a three-dimensional art form in contrast to that of a two-dimensional art form • identify the functions and purposes of sculpture • identify the media and specific techniques associated with sculpture and ceramics • describe examples of art forms made with ceramic, glass, metal, fiber and wood, from traditional utilitarian • craft objects to contemporary uses of craft media in fine art.

Course Learning Outcomes

The Student will be able to: • examine the functions and purposes of sculpture • gain an understanding of the broad range of sculptural media, techniques and effects • analyze examples of art forms made with ceramic, glass, metal, fiber and wood, from traditional utilitarian • craft objects to contemporary uses of craft media in fine art • gain an understanding of some of the processes involved in each media.
