Course Synopsis

• This course encourages research on different textiles, supporting studio courses as far as possible. It is treated as a seminar course where dialogue and research is encouraged. • The course is designed to enable students to understand and appreciate the nature and significance of textiles and to develop confidence and competence in the selection, design, manufacture and application of textile items. • Knowledge and understanding of the functional and aesthetic requirements of textiles for a range of applications • The ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the properties and performance of textiles to the development and manufacture of textile items • Skills in experimentation, critical analysis and the discriminatory selection of textiles for specific end-uses. An appreciation of the significance of textiles in society.
