Course Synopsis

This course aims to provide skills to the students of Botany specializing in the field of Phytochemistry for using medicinal plants as a source of traditional and modern drugs. The course highlights various techniques for phytopreparations, in vitro cultivation of medicinal plants, in vitro production of secondary metabolites, techniques for enhanced secondary metabolite production and use of biotechnology in medicinal crop improvement.

Course Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course, the students will get comprehensive insight into the field of Phytomedicine and relevant areas. They will have learnt different techniques for in vitro propagation of medicinal plants and the methods to increase their production. They will get information regarding techniques used to product pharmacologically important plant metabolites and their production at commercial level. They will learn how to apply biotechnology to improve the traits of medicinal plants and to improve the production of plant secondary metabolites.
