Course Contents
Introduction to theories of architecture such as Empiricism, Rationalism and Pragmatism, study of the theories and works of great masters of modern architecture and contemporary urban designers. Study of Modern, Post Modern and Contemporary theories of Architecture such as Regionalism, Vernacularism, Organic, Deconstruction etc. Architects and their designed buildings. Social and Philosophical analysis of architectural designs.
Course Learning Outcomes
The course will develop a clear perception of orderly classifications , logical interrelations and design techniques in students of Architectural Design Studio V. Thus , this subject will become the most handful tool of students that they will benefit themselves whilst in their architectural design studios.
Various theories of architecture pertaining to the elements and principles of function, structure, and aesthetic effect and their optimal integration will improve the creative ability of students in design practice thus leading to a more mature evolution of architecture itself. It could encourage research in hitherto neglected questions.
Graphic analysis of buildings and architectural complexes to develop the ability of the student to theoretically understand architectural issues which are later studied verbally in the form of architectural treatises. The model used throughout is the city which has proved throughout history to be an enduring architectural archetype.
