Course Contents
Course Description This course is to familiarize the students with the Emergence of Islam, Location of Arab Peninsula, a buffer zone between the Persian and Roman Empires, spread of Islam from Arabia to other parts of world, Prophet (PBUH) and Khulafa-e-Rashedeen, Dynasties of Umayyad, Abbasids, Fatimid, Mamlook, Berber, Moors, Ottoman Turks, Safavids, Arrival of the Muslims in subcontinent, Qaramites, Sultanate Period, Mughal period.
Contribution of Muslims in Art and Architecture, Building Typology, Materials used and Decoration and ornamentation.
Course Synopsis
To promote awareness of the social, cultural, political, economic and technological context of architecture, so as to create architecture that is relevant to its place and time.
To stimulate interest in architectural history as an academic discipline.
To encourage correct use of architectural vocabulary in architectural design and discourse.
To enable students to identify cross-cultural interactions/influences on architecture.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to identify and utilize appropriate historic precedents towards architectural design in the studios.
