Course Contents

The course content based on understanding knowledge of Basic Geometry and Trigonometry, Coordinate Systems and Datum’s, Basic statistics in surveying, Levelling by using Theodolites and Total Stations, Bearings and coordinates. A brief Introduction to GNSS/GPS, Contouring, long sections and cross sections. Development of profiles, cross-sectioning for contour, the placing of grade stakes and batter boards, horizontal, vertical, and spiral curves. How to calculate areas, volumes on site with specific calculation and working on filed book.

Course Synopsis

This course is a brief Introduction to surveying and leveling to students. Survey by traditional triangulation method. Plain table survey, use of theodolite, laser leveler and total station. Introduction to GIS (geographical information system). Objective of this course is to equip students with the basic principles and theories which underlie the systematic study of topographic features, basic skills of landform analysis through map and field observation, need and role of Surveying and Levelling related to Architecture, preparation and interpretation of survey drawings, methods, tools and equipment necessary to carryout different survey procedures and recent advancements in the field of landforms survey and measurements.

Course Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to: 1. Apply fundamental surveying concepts such as datum’s, horizontal and vertical coordinate systems, horizontal and vertical angles, and the graphical representation of the three dimensional information. 2. Implement the concepts and practicalities of differential levelling in a plane surveying environment. 3. Execute the basic techniques and capabilities of surveying instruments.
