Course Contents
Principle of photochemistry. Sources of radiation, actinometry (both physical and chemical), primary and secondary photochemical processes, quantum yields, experimental techniques, photolytic studies of aqueous and non-aqueous systems, effects of radiation on solids. Kinetics, mechanism, energetic of photochemical reactions.
Course Synopsis
In this course students will: study about basic principles of photo chemistry based upon the light and matter interactions. Actinometry and comparison between physical and chemical actinometry will be studied. Which will help in understanding the relation between radiation of light and ththeir heating effect. . Energetic, mechanism and kinetics of photo chemical processes/ reactions will be studied. Student will be able to analyze and interpret photo effects under different conditions. Based upon the above knowledge student will be able to differentiate between thermal and photochemical changes.
Course Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, the student would have knowledge to
Describe the interaction of excited states with their surroundings(matter), and qualitative and quantitative changes explained by two basic laws of photo chemistry
Explain theory and practice of common photo chemical and photo physical methods of actinometry.
Explain primary and secondary photo chemical processes.Explain the variation in quatum yield depending upon the knowledge of these both laws.
Explain the mechanisms of common photo chemical transformations with energetic changes during photochemical process
Describe mechanism and kinetics of a photo chemical change.
Describe experimental techniques which could help in studying photochemical change.
