Course Contents
Major characteristics/functions of the immune system: specificity, immunologic memory, discrimination between self and non-self.
Cells and organs constituting the immune system: primary lymphoid organs(thymous and bone marrow), secondary lymphoid tissue (spleen and lymph nodes)
The immunocompetant cells: origin, cell surface antigens, populations and subpopulation of lymphocytes and phagocytes (T cella, B cells, natural killers (NK) cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, Netrophills).
Types of Immune Mechanisma: non specific host resistance (innate immunity), chemical and cellular mediators of innate immunity, mechanisms of specific host defence (Adaptive immunity), Humoral immune response/antibody production and structure, cells involved in the cellular sequence of events and function of antibodies, structure, types and function of antibodies.
The major histocompatibility complex and cell mediated immune response
Major histo compatibility complex (MHC) molecules, role of the MHC in the immune response.
Hibridoma development technology, overview of hybridoma development and its applications in research.
Course Synopsis
This course give detail about different components of immune system. Immune cell, immune organs and their functions. Types of immune mechanism; innate and acquired immunity. Major histocompatibility complexes and their role in antigen recognition and presentation.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students will be able to learn about immune components and how these components participate in acquired and innate immunity. Moreover they will have a detail knowledge of surface receptors and their importance in immune system.
