Pericyclic Reactions:
Huckel molecular orbital-and perturbation orbital theories; Frontier orbitals (HOMO-LUMO) concept; orbital symmetry; alternate and non-alternate hydrocarbons, Huckel and Mobious systems, Classes of pericyclic reactions: electrocyclic, cycloaddition, sigmatropic and chelotropic reactions and their interpretation through (a) orbital symmetry conservation (b) frontier orbital treatment and (c) Huckel-Mobious approach Applications to organic synthesis.
Course Synopsis
this course contain a different mode of reaction involves transfer of electrons within the π-systems of alkenes and dienes. stereochemistry of these type of reaction is also important part of this course. All types of pericyclic reactions are very useful for synthetic purpose. How Woodward Hoffman theory is helpful to investigate the reactions and role of frontier orbital theory is very important to understand these type of reaction. role of solvents is also discussed with diels Alder reactions.
Course Learning Outcomes
The course is designed in such a way that a wide range of cyclic and polycyclic molecules can be learned by pericyclic reactions. mechanism of such types of reactions is also very helpful to understand the stereochemistry of the products. understanding of photolytic and thermal reaction can be achieved through this course.
