INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE: Definition of Statistics, Importance of Statistics, Basic concepts of Statistics, Sample, parameter, Statistic, Variables, Types of variables, Constant, Univariate and bivariate data, Collection of data, primary data, and secondary data, Methods of collection of primary and secondary data. PRESENTATION OF DATA: Classification, Tabulation, Frequency distribution and its formation for continuous and discrete data, Graphical representation, graphs and diagrams: Pictorigram, Pie diagram, bar chart, multiple bar chart, component bar chart, histogram for discrete and continuous data. MEASURE OF CENTRAL TENDENCY AND DISPERSION: Introduction of measure of central tendency, A.M and weighted arithmetic mean, Median, Mode with properties, empirical relationship between mean, median and mode. MEASURE OF DISPERSION: Measure of Dispersion, Mean deviation, Variance, Standard deviation and their properties, Co-efficient of Variation. REGRESSION AND CORRELATION: Introduction to simple linear regression model, Simple linear correlation co-efficient and its properties, Curve fitting by least square, Fitting a straight line, Fitting a second degree parabola, Fitting of higher degree parabolic curves.
