Course Contents

This course is the extended study of various aspects of radio production, including preparing content for radio programming, producing studio-recordings, a news or feature interview story, pre-recorded newscasts, ad spots, promotional posts, researching and producing documentary with sound and writing and directing radio drama supporting station operations.

Course Synopsis

A course in Radio Broadcasting will introduce students to the studio environment and the technical equipment used by undertaking several field trips to broadcasting/recording spaces. Along with working on a student s technical competence, tutors will also give training in production, research and presentation skills. Advanced programmes allow students to further develop their skills, along with additional aspects such as editing and processing, location and studio recording, and voice coaching. Another niche area in radio broadcasting is documentary making. To engage students for broadcasting experience and geared them towards developing an understanding of narrative technique in order to produce stories that are captivating for listeners. Students will also build an appreciation of the contemporary technological processes used in the medium.

Outcomes By the end of the course students will have an understanding of the professional requirements of working in the broadcast industry and be experienced in: working as part of a radio production team live to air presentation and production of a weekly radio program research, development and production of stories preparation of radio scripts, edit plans and running sheets interviewing and recording for broadcast operation of the studio panel and portable recorders (edirol) digital sound editing (Adobe Audition) understanding of different audio file formats for broadcast and online content operation of the station playout system (DAD) production and presentation of pre-recorded packages and program promos. production of online content, including podcasts, for the station website Podcasting Channels. produce radio features and talk shows and Documentaries. will practically attempt experiencing VoiceOver for the television and Video projects. Learn the techniques involved for radio production. Create, record, edit, and prepare for broadcast announcements, a news or feature interview story, and produce pre-recorded newscasts and spots suitable for use in a professional environment. develop and apply skills in writing, editing, critical thinking, technology, program design, and overall scheduling. work to improve the radio station FM 96.6 continuously to better meet the needs of the audience.
