Drawing exercise 4 Drapery and draped objects: The creation of an illusion of real drapery in a real setting, for example, a curtain would be painted on to a wall or a flat surface with a landscape painted beyond it, and at first glance they would appear to be a real curtain and real curtain and real landscape. Drapery is used in this case as a traditional device for moving from reality to illusion. Drawing exercise Week 8 Association: Sensory association, expressive association and conceptual association in art (2 hours lecture) Music as a subject for a drawing: A piece of classical music will be played lasting approximately ten minutes. It will be played through once to get an overall impression of the whole piece. Then it will be played through again, but this time the students will track with a pencil a line making the changes in tempo, volume and mood. The drawing should last the time of the piece of music. On a full scholar sheet the student will draw five rectangular formats or cells. Now the piece of music will be played again stopping every two or so minutes. At each stop, Students will draw for ten minutes with soft pencil, trying to represent in shapes, line and texture the passage just completed. For the final drawing’s look, students will work on this drawing for two hours and complete it with charcoal. Pastel or conte’ in which they will represent the music- the actual sounds-as marks, but tempered by the effect it has on them. Course Synopsis

This course is an introductory drawing course designed to prepare students for study in all majors. Students develop basic drawing skills, including the ability to perceive and express visual relationships, organize a two-dimensional composition and depict and manipulate form, space and light. Students will learn to work from direct observation of still life, interior spaces, landscape and human figure. Develop the ability to perceive and measure special relationships. Draw geometric and organic shapes in space. Understand contrast in tone and texture. Understand how light describes form and texture. Become familiar with the visual elements of drawing (line, shape, value, texture, scale, space, etc.) Understand the importance of composition, organization, placement and positive and negative space. Describe form through correct proportion. Understand and use linear perspective and other special systems. Understand and use the vocabulary of drawing. Be exposed to a variety of approaches to drawing, (style, technique, and medium e.g. pencils colours, pastels, charcoals, pen and ink, water colours etc.). Develop critical judgment relating to drawing. Become familiar with master and contemporary drawings. Integrated skills and knowledge developed in other classes

Course Learning Outcomes

This drawing course will be beneficial for the students in learning process of upper level courses as painting, graphics, photography, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, calligraphy, etc. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will acquire the listed skills: A basic introduction for study in any two-dimensional or three- dimensional field of art Observation in various subject areas such as still life, interiors, nature study, landscape and abstraction
