Course Synopsis

Course Description: Political Sociology examines the social bases of politics, nation states, political institutions and the impact of politics on society. After World War II and particular in 1960s the significant growth has been seen in the field of political Sociology and it is considered now an integral part of Political Science (along with Political Theory, Public Policy, Comparative Politics and International Relations). It has dealt with two aspects micro and macro. Under the micro aspect, the focus of micro has been on individuals and their political identities, their voting behavior, attitudes and political participation. On the other hand, the macro aspect focuses on the big questions about how and why political institutions take the form they do the cause and consequences of revolutions and their impact on the society as a whole. Political sociology is taught to understand the development of society.

Course Learning Outcomes

This course would enable: • Students to have the basic concepts and theoretical debates in Political Sociology; • To get acquaintance of analytical tools and the empirical knowledge to understand some of the fundamental socio‐political processes of the world. • students to develop their capacity for rigorous oral and written logical reasoning.
