Course Contents

1. Definition of Economics: Definition of economics in terms of wealth, definition of economics in terms of material welfare, definition of economics in terms of scare means and numerous wants. 2. Basic concepts for understanding economics 3. Micro Economics Theory: demand law, elasticity, assumptions, limitations; supply law, elasticity, assumptions, limitations; Markets competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition; Price, price determination under monopoly and under perfect competition; Saving, importance and role of saving in the economy and investment. 4. Macro-Economic Theory: I). Money, functions of money, determination of the value of money, effects of changes in the value of money on different economic groups, the quantity theory of money, the demand for money; II). Banks, functions and kinds of banks; III). Credits, role of credit in the economy; IV). Taxes, principles and classification of taxes; V). Inflation and deflation. 5. The Consumer and the Market: the role of consumers in a free economy, their rights and responsibilities, planning and recording expenditure, role of advertisement in consumer decisions.


Course Learning Outcomes

1. Students will become aware of financial management and consumption. 2. They will be able to understand individual‘s role as a consumer in the development of a country. 3. They will be able to distinguish characteristics and varied functions of banking. 4. They will be able to know Taxation and governing principles of Micro and Macro economics.
