The students will be introduced to the building acoustics, fire prevention, security systems, circulation in buildings, water management and buildings codes in Building services and system III Course Outline: Introduction to building envelops, Introduction to acoustic system, Vertical circulation in buildings, Introduction of fire safety in buildings, Introduction to Water Management in buildings, Expert lecture on fire safety in buildings , Introduction to building security systems, Introduction to building codes in Pakistan, Introduction to LEEDS and Green Building criteria, Introduction to Green Roofing In Building, Introduction to Power Generation and their supply, Introduction to Energy Consumptions in buildings and Solar panels

Course Synopsis

The course intends to establish a framework for the students to understand the initial design steps for MEPFTT. They will learn to distinguish the building into core and shells as per the design requirements, Sketch the basic plan / concept related to services, Plan room layouts and materials as per the acoustic requirements, develop Technical drawings for security system (symbols used for the CCTVand access control, Lan/wan, telephone exchange and burglar alarm) Fire detection system and prepare firefighting plan according to the rooms layout and fire escape according to building design. They will also investigate the Vertical transportations according to building types and lastly, the students will be introduced to local building codes and Green building codes

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the course will enable the students to understand the design requirements considering the aforementioned services that are to be included within their designs for the consultants’ proceedings. The students will be directed through the design process involving the building services, their prerequisites and the provisions that are required for any future working. They will be able to work on the technical aspects of their design decisions and the thumb rules to follow in the initial design process. The site visit with a specialist from the field will enable them to see the site practices and observe the systems more closely. The assignments and case study project will help them to develop their technical understanding. At the end of this module, the students will be equipped enough to analyze and work on the layouts in correspondence to the respective building services and recommend a proper solution in terms of performance, requirement and energy efficiency to their clients.
