Chemistry of Forensic evidences: Polymers, Fibers, Paint, Documents, Soil, Explosives, Firearms, Arson, Body Fluids, Drugs and Toxicology, and fingerprints. Preliminary test: Chemical tests, Density and Light examination. Microscopic techniques: Optical Microscopy, introduction, interpretation of Fibers, paint, drugs and documents. Molecular spectroscopy: Infrared and Raman spectroscopy, introduction, interpretation of paint, polymers, documents, explosives and drugs. Elemental Analysis: Atomic spectrometry, introduction, interpretation of glass, gunshot residue and Toxicology.

Course Synopsis

This course approaches the methods and analyses of forensic science from a chemical perspective. Topics include different analytical techniques to interpret drug, questioned document, glass, paint and gunshot residue samples.

Course Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to describe the chemistry that is utilized in different methods to visualize and interpret fingerprints, explosives, documents, bullets, glass fragments and other pigments samples.
