Fine Structure; Orientation and Crystalline ; Chain length and molecular slip; Effect of stretch on crystalline and amorphous regions; 5. Properties due to crystalline and amorphous regions. 6. Chemistry of Cellulose: Purification of Cellulose materials; Chemical constitution of cellulose e.g. Structures of the molecule and groups, degree of polymerization; Derivatives of Cellulose (Cellulose Esters, Cellulose Ethers, Reactivity of Hydroxyl groups); Hydrolysis of cellulose (Hydrocellulose, Rate of Attack, Determination of the degradation; viscosity method, and group analysis); Oxidation of cellulose, Attack of cellulose by alkali. Practical: 1. Practical will be based on theory topics.

Course Synopsis

This course is specifically designed for textile students to have knowledge about chemical properties and processes used in this field.
