Course Synopsis

During this course, the need and importance of Mass spectrometry, as an analytical technique will be discussed. The principles and instrumentation of this technique will be discussed in detail. Various parts of instrument will be discussed in detail. The inlet system, ionization chamber and methods as well as various kinds of detection systems will be discussed. Afterwards, the interpretation of mass spectra will be studied.

Course Learning Outcomes

The students will learn the very important technique of Mass spectrometry. Why this technique is important? What are its applications, especially in research? The students will be able to understand the various concepts and parts of instrument in this course. The students will be made understand about the interpretation of mass spectra, giving them some assignments about some relatively simple molecules.
