Course Synopsis

Modern governments are based on effective representation of people. Local government contributes to the strengthening of democracy. In Pakistan, Local government is the third tier of the government, the first two being the Central and Provincial governments. Local government operates both in rural and urban areas and provides representation at grass root level.It is protected by the constitution in Articles 32 and 140-A and each province has its own local government enabling legislation and ministries responsible for implementation. Local government is responsible for delivering a broad range of services in relation to roads,traffic,planning, environment,recreation,economic and community development. It serves as a training ground for mass political education and mobilization.

Course Learning Outcomes

By studying this course students will develop analytical skills in determining specific local public needs and how these local needs could be met. It will create understanding about the public administration of towns, cities, counties and districts.
