Course Synopsis

This course provides the opportunity for students to explore, in theoretical and practical terms, an introduction to 3D CAD computing as a design practice, and to investigate the problem solving potential of technologically mediated design through 3D modeling. The course is based around a design studio with 3D modeling as the major medium for facilitation and communication. Through project based explorations and critical analysis, students are initially led though a design brief, where various coded solutions are sourced as to the generation of responsive concepts and their creative expression. Technological mediation, social and environmental impact will be explored through project work. Students will engage in a range of individual and group work activities.

Course Learning Outcomes

• In this course students will: Demonstrate a basic knowledge of CAD and the ability to use appropriate technique and procedures for the care and use of hardware and software to produce a series of orthographic and isometric drawings. • Understand the importance of developing precise basic entities and will demonstrate the ability to produce accurate drawings, using computer techniques and procedures. • Use of fundamental features of Revit® Architecture. • Use of parametric 3D design tools to design projects. • Create detailing and drafting views. • Plan and develop storyboards. • Organize an animation project. • Identify and utilize the traditional concepts of animation. • Utilize basic modeling techniques. • Apply the basic theory of Color. • Apply the basic theory of lighting. • Apply the basic theory of Motion. • Identify the various types of computer animation software. • Identify the various file formats used in computer animation development. • Identify the hardware/software requirements
