Introduction to nanomaterials: nanopowders, nanowires, quantum dots, thin films. Properties: Electronic, optical and mechanical properties of selected nanomaterials. Characterization of nanomaterials: Characterization of nanomaterials using atomic absorption, Scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscopy, Profilometry, Reflectometry, X-Ray Diffraction analysis, Spectroscopies (EDX, SIMS, Raman, XPS), Particle size analysis etc. Synthesis and Processing: Nanoscale synthesis: top-down and bottom-up approach, Synthesis route including, sol-gel process, hydrothermal method, chemical vapor deposition etc. Applications of selected nanomaterials

Course Synopsis

This course will develop an understanding of the basic chemistry of nanomaterials, their types, and applications of the various types in daily life.

Course Learning Outcomes

The students would be able to get a knowledge of the techniques employed towards the synthesis of nanomaterials and also the analysis and characterization of the synthesized materials.
